In the early 90's Siloën Daley left BC to attend Canada's only degree granting art school in Halifax. After working in many mediums, Siloën became active in the community in the areas of music, radio, filmmaking, and presentation. Stimulated by her peers, Siloën continued to take workshops and make independent films. Her general curiosity lead her beyond the camera to the laboratory and film handling. Like with her previous art practices, she was used to keeping her hands on the whole process.
Twenty years later Siloën is at home in central Halifax with a body of
short expressionistic films which have screened internationally, and a
studio where something is always in the works. She has worked for many
co-ops and arts organizations, taught numerous workshops, and worked
in the film industry in many fields. Having started in the industry as
a negative cutter, then a film editor, an animator, a teacher, a
projectionist, a storyboard artist, and an assistant director, Siloën
now finds herself working as production coordinator and manager of a
fabulous documentary office. She is also founder and director of
Halifax's art house cinema, the Carbon Arc Cinema Co-op Ltd., where
films are screened on a weekly basis for seven months of the year.
